RFE/RL: The Caspian Sea agreement – what’s next?

It’s been a week since the presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan met in the Kazakh city of Aqtau and signed the Convention On The Legal Status Of The Caspian Sea. This agreement should have ended any disputes about use of the Caspian and its resources, but it did not. Read more here.

RFE/RL: Hunger-striking Russian opposition activist Udaltsov hospitalized

The jailed leader of Russia’s opposition Levy Front (Left Front) movement, Sergei Udaltsov, has been hospitalized, observers and his social media channels say. Udaltsov was taken to a Moscow hospital suffering from “dehydration” on August 19, five days into a hunger strike, a post on his Twitter account said on August 19. Read more here.

Associated Press: British, Ukrainian paragliders are killed in Macedonia

Macedonian authorities say two paragliders have died in central Macedonia when their parachutes collided in the air. Police said in a statement August 18 that the accident occurred mid-day August 17 near the central town of Krusevo. Read more here.
